Each contributing voice is a window into sustaining a creative life and increasing visibility and space for gender diversity in filmmaking.


​“When I first began identifying as an artist, I felt freer as a filmmaker. This is why I organized the publication of this zine,” said Jes Reyes, lead editor. “I am just one voice of many contributing to this zine. We want others, too, to see themselves as film directors who can make films, no matter what, no matter if they are underrepresented within the community and industry. This collection of articles is for them.”

Shopping recommendations

I compulsively read artist career books so I have read a lot advice from a lot of different perspectives and experiences. Often, I get asked to share the books I recommend. My favorites are books that discuss ways to show up for your art practice and encourage a lifestyle of art. I also love time management books. I am a busy person and these books have helped me create boundaries....so I get enough sleep and don't say yes to everything. I encourage you to look into these books below as they have helped me feel more grounded while I am making a life and career as an artist.
